Accused of:

- Participation in pro-Putin organizations that incite hatred towards Ukraine and Western countries. So, since 2017, Dmitry Sagal has been a member of the so-called “Izborsk Club”. Since November 2018, he has headed the Vladimir regional branch of this organization. “Izborsk Club” unites a number of specific publicists and public figures. The formal purpose of the club is to study Russian domestic and foreign policy. In fact, this club, as well as its members individually, work to form a certain ideology among their audience, namely the idea of Putin as the legitimate president of Russia, the hostile intentions of the West towards Russia, and the denial of the legitimacy of the existence of Ukrainian statehood. After the start of Putin’s aggression against Ukraine, members of the organization began to consistently justify the aggression. The Izborsk Club is criticized not only from anti-war and anti-Putin positions, but also from the point of view of the Orthodox community, which calls the organization a sect, in particular for its attempts to achieve the canonization of Stalin.
Sagal also hosts his own program on the Den TV channel, which has an anti-Western and anti-Ukrainian orientation.

Direct support for Putin’s aggression against Ukraine. Thus, Dmitry Sagal was one of 150 cultural figures who signed a letter to Putin supporting the war against Ukraine. The letter notes that Russia allegedly had no choice but to start a war. The letter repeats the usual narratives of Putin’s propaganda, taken from Orwell’s book “1984”, namely “War is Peace”:

“Peace-loving Russia has always been against wars, never started them, but always ended them.” - reads the text of the appeal.

In the appeal, the signatories create the image of Putin as a legitimate ruler, allegedly elected by the people. In addition, the signatories, including Sagal, combine, on the one hand, justification for the start of the war, which entailed the death of thousands of Ukrainians, and on the other hand, they ask to “preserve the fraternal people of Little Rus' (Ukraine),” without hesitating to mention God for this double-minded concept.

After the death of Kremlin propagandist Daria Dugina, Dmitry Sagal took the initiative to create an award in honor of the deceased warmonger. At the same time, Sagal insisted that the prize be international and that young people around the world have the right to it if they speak Russian and share Dugina’s ideas. The award, according to Sagal, should have been established “so that the memory of Dugina would live in our society, live in the Russian world.”
